Reviews
I recommend visiting the fortress yourself; you can take a boat from Elounda. A boat ticket costs 14 euros. Save your ticket to travel to Elounda again.
They announce boats every 30 minutes. We had to wait 2 hours for a boat to return to Elounda. Run away. Start from plaka instead. There are boats every 10 minutes!
Nice crossing from Elounda
Everything worked smoothly! Departure on time at both stations, very clean boat...
I can't understand the bad reviews!
When you arrive on the island, they tell you that you have to take the boat back 1 hour later, otherwise you won't have a guaranteed spot. There was no mention of this when we bought the tickets... 1 hour is nearly impossible to walk around spinalonga so we wanted to opt for a later boat and waited for over 1 hour - so much for "boat trips ever half hour" ... poor communication and doesn't live up to what's promised 100 %
Price has increased from €8 (current travel guide) to €14!!! enormously increased. Plus the 8€ entrance fee (if that hasn't already increased) that would be 22€/person... The gentlemen in the wooden hut showed no interest in helping you. We therefore canceled the trip to the island and preferred to go to a nice restaurant in town.
Well... You are brought over and picked up again... the stay on the island is an unbelievable 70 minutes. It's not a particularly nice visit with this time pressure on your back... We paid 28 stones there and back for 2 people.. .
A pleasant and short drive to Spinalonga, an island where leprosy patients have stayed for centuries. The buildings on the island are almost completely preserved and protected. We are very satisfied with the visit to the village of Plaka and Spinalonga. Many tourists are constantly arriving on the island by boat. It is clean, well-decorated, well marked, a nice little restaurant and toilets are on the island. Entrance to the island with a tour of the museum costs 8 euros, and transportation by boat to Spinalonga from Plaka in both directions is 12 euros. Nice experience.
